Ableism in Spiritual Practices and Communities

Ableism in Spiritual Practices and Communities

In this video, Jennifer talks about several topics in the realm of ableism in spiritual communities and practices including spiritual bypassing, demonic possession, toxic positivity, unsolicited medical advice, adapting practices, using substitutions, and not deviating and modifying practices because they have to be done exactly by the book. Did you know that Belladonna's Botanicals is a disability owned business? For those that don't know me, I am Jennifer (BellaJennyfur) and I am disabled -- chronic pain/joint issues, autoimmune, Autism/ADHD, C-PTSD, and probably ten other things I can remember because the list is that long. While I can no longer work a traditional day job, running BB has been a dream come true. I love what I do even though it can be challenging at times to keep up with the demand as my body and health require a lot of constant maintenance - appointments, diagnostics, minor surgical procedures, injections, medications, etc. No one thinks they will become disabled. I certainly didn't expect it to happen when I was in my 40s and it is challenging to come to terms with the things I can no longer do and to constantly change and adapt along the way.
